Royal Jelly Harlem is an African-inspired clothing and home decorating line founded in February 2011 by Maya Gorgoni. After her many trips to West and South Africa she was inspired by the artistry of the printed fabrics which made an indelible imprint on what was to become this exciting new line comprising of both fashion and home décor. The fashion line consists of garments made of 100% cotton that is targeted at the ‘jet-set’ crowd, ‘lunching ladies’ and working women worldwide! The collection includes beautiful sundresses that are sexy, colorful and flatter the body. The silhouettes are influenced by the fashions of the 1950s-60s, from slimming tent dresses and flirty dresses to ballerina skirts, tops/blouses, Capri and Palazzo pants. There is also a Men’s line consisting of West African printed board shorts, T-shirts and Palazzo pants. Accessories include: handbags, clutches, beach towels, phone cases, hair accessories and iPad covers. As well as beautiful African bangles and beads, which look best worn in multiples. Royal Jelly Harlem’s home décor collection in African prints cover a wide variety from reversible Duvet covers and shams, table place mats and napkins, shower curtains to antique and vintage chairs, benches, ottomans and poufs. Royal Jelly Harlem tries to call attention to the diversity of the African continent and its culture, traditions and art. We believe in maximizing the boldness of the fabric’s images and prints by designing pieces that embrace this art. We help contribute to the growth and prosperity of this beautiful culture by purchasing many of our materials from local African vendors and use African-born dressmakers and tailors to manufacture goods. All of our products are assembled and produced in the United States of America. Maya, daughter of world renowned artist and photo-journalist Gianfranco Gorgoni, is an avid traveler, graduated from Binghamton University with a double major BA in Psychology and Italian. She worked in hotel hospitality management for many years and is currently manager/owner of ‘Casa Tua’, a hospitality-alternative home-away rental in Harlem.
